Ljubomir Joveski was elected Public Prosecutor of the Republic of North Macedonia on 25.12.2017, and held the position until 25.12.2023. He was born on 03.01.1954 in the village of Dolgaec, Prilep region. He completed his secondary education at the “Cvetan Dimov” Gymnasium in Skopje, and graduated from the Faculty of Law at the “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” University – Skopje in 1978. He passed the bar exam in 1983. In his professional biography, Joveski has more than 15 years of work experience as a judge in criminal cases, more than 12 years of work experience as a public prosecutor and 7 years of work experience in the field of execution of criminal sanctions.
After graduating, in 1979 he was employed at the Republic Secretariat of Justice, where after an internship, he performed work tasks as an officer, senior officer and later an advisor – inspector in the Sector for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions. During the same period, he also performed the duties of Secretary of the Council for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Secretary of the Commission for the Conditional Release of Convicted Persons, President of the Commission for Taking the Professional Exam for the Positions in the Security Service in Penitentiary and Correctional Institutions and Secretary of the Commission for Taking the Judicial Exam. On 09.11.1987, Joveski was elected as a judge at the Municipal Court Skopje 2, and in 1995 and 1996 he served as Deputy President of the Court. Since 02.07.1996, he has been acting president, after which he was also elected as president of the Basic Court Skopje 2 Skopje for a four-year term. As a judge, he acted in criminal cases. He was elected Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of North Macedonia on 10.04.2003, while from 15.04.2009 he was elected Public Prosecutor in that Prosecutor’s Office. Joveski held this position until his election as a member of the Council of Public Prosecutors of the Republic of North Macedonia on 23.12.2015, where he was elected from the ranks of public prosecutors. He participated in several working groups for the development of draft laws in the field of justice – the Criminal Code, the laws on criminal procedure, for the prosecution, for the courts, for the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, for misdemeanors, for the execution of sanctions, for the Council of Public Prosecutors and others.
